THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD

The Transfiguration is one of Scripture’s most insightful moments. On the mountain, Jesus reveals a glory that was not added to Him but unveiled—a light that had always been present, though unseen. The disciples climbed that mountain carrying their own fears and uncertainties, just as we often do. Yet in that moment of revelation, God did not change their circumstances; He gave them insight.

What makes this event profoundly human is that it happens on the road to the Cross. Jesus shows His glory not to escape suffering, but to strengthen His friends for what lies ahead. In our own lives, God often gives us brief moments of clarity—moments of peace, insight, or consolation—not to remove our struggles, but to help us walk through them with courage. Glory and hardship can coexist, and divine light can accompany us even in the valley.

Moses and Elijah appear beside Jesus, reminding us that every longing, every promise, and every chapter of salvation history finds its fulfillment in Christ. Peter wants to stay on the mountain, as we often do when life finally makes sense. But the Father’s voice redirects him: “This is my beloved Son… listen to Him.” The true transformation happens not in the brightness of the mountaintop but in the obedience of daily life.

When the vision fades, the Gospel says, “They saw only Jesus.” No cloud, no dazzling light—just Jesus, steady and present. This is the heart of Transfiguration. When extraordinary moments pass and life returns to normal, Christ remains with us, walking beside us.

The Transfiguration is not only about Jesus’ glory; it is also a promise about our own. God is quietly shaping us, strengthening us, and transforming us— often in ways we do not yet see. The same light revealed on the mountain is the light God is kindling within us.

May this gospel story renew our vision, deepen our trust, and remind us that the glory of Christ accompanies us in every season of life.
